Our Lady of Regla will meet her devotees in the streets of Chipiona this year on two different dates, on her festivity, September 8, and, exceptionally, on Saturday May 28. In this second case, the reason will be the end of the pandemic and it will serve as thanksgiving for its protection in the last two years.
The rector of the Sanctuary of Regla, Fray Juan José Rodríguez, has advanced today on the microphones of the municipal radio and television that the route will be different from the usual one every September 8 and also the duration, which will be longer. The departure will take place at 5:00 p.m. and the collection is scheduled between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The itinerary will take the Avenida de Regla, after stopping at the Cooperativa Católico Agrícola por su Centenario, to the Plaza de Abastos, where a floral offering will take place, but the return is yet to be decided.
The news was announced by the Franciscan Community at the Easter Vigil last Saturday. The rector of the Sanctuary of Regla has indicated that, as a precaution, they have not wanted to make this extraordinary procession until a certain normality has been reached. "The faithful asked us, but we had to be careful because the Virgin of Regla gathers a huge number of people and we had to avoid risk."
The procession will not reach the parish as in other extraordinary outings, because the intention is that it be something different, the Franciscan rector has advanced, who has also highlighted the great satisfaction with which the gang of bearers and their team of foremen have welcomed the initiative.
“We have chosen a weekend before the summer in which it does not coincide with other activities and in the month of María, the month of flowers, whose production Chipiona is a national and international benchmark for,” said Fray Juan José Rodríguez.
